Awww! Cleveland Browns Player Takes Tweeting Teen To Senior Prom

May 14th, 2012 - By Brande Victorian

Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden just became one of our favorite players in the game. The 23-year-old NFLer made one high school senior’s prom truly one of the most special nights of her life by being her date for the dance, and all she did was ask—on Twitter.

“[The tweet] just said, ‘Hey Joe, would you consider going to my senior prom with me because my date backed out and didn’t go,’ ” Independence High School student Joyce Grendel told Fox 8.

Within a few hours, she got the shock of her life—Joe responded with a “yes.”
The 18-year-old was understandably nervous as she got ready for her big date Saturday night, and Joe did not disappoint, picking her up from her home not in a customary limo, but in a white Lamborghini. And though he was the man everyone was looking for that night, Joe said it was a big night for him too because he never made it to his senior prom since he graduated early.

Dear Mama: Beyonce’s Mother’s Day Letter to Tina

May 14th, 2012 - By Brande Victorian
Mother’s Day was officially yesterday, but there’s still enough motherly love to go around this Monday. We know Beyonce, Tina Knowles, and little Blue Ivy are hardly the only famous mother-daughter-granddaughter trio around, but like Jada Pinkett and her family, Beyonce took a moment to express her love for her mother publicly, in a letter to Tina on her website. Matthew Knowles usually gets all the credit for Beyonce’s super stardom but Bey wants everyone to know the role her mother played in her success as well.

Team Natural or Team Relaxed? What’s the Point of the Divide?

May 14th, 2012 - By Jouelzy

Team Natural or Team Relaxed? What started out as women cheerfully showing pride in their locks has turned into another divisive tool amongst women of color. Last week I wrote two articles for Madame Noire; the first article was about having realistic expectations for natural hair, which sparked a nice conversation amongst women with different textures and how they were learning to work with their hair. The next day my article was posted on how to wear a good weave on a budget, and boy oh boy, did I cause a firestorm on the Facebook page. Almost immediately someone asked why we weren’t encouraging women to wear their real hair. And thus it began a mini comment battle between women who enjoy wearing extensions and relaxers and women who enjoy toting natural hair. No one realized that the author (me, of course) giving advice on weaves was someone who had been natural for many years, just a day after providing tips for those with natural hair.

Do you agree there is divide between natural and relaxed hair women? Read more at MadameNoire.com
